For many families with children on the autism spectrum, planning a vacation often comes with more anxiety than excitement. The dream of relaxing together in a beautiful setting can feel out of reach—until now.
I've been blessed to travel with some of the most precious people in my life who just happen to be solidly on the autism spectrum, struggling with stimulation, anxiety, language skills and avoiding a meltdown. I didn't know anyone, any destination in the world, would care as much as I did and do for these precious children and adults. But now I know that what I dared to dream, of a place in the word where families can actually relax because someone else is carrying the burden for once, that others dreamed it, too.
At Beaches Resorts, that dream becomes a reality. With a groundbreaking autism program that’s thoughtful, inclusive, and deeply compassionate, families can finally exhale… and enjoy every moment.
Why It Matters
Autism affects 1 in 36 children annually, a number that’s grown by 600% since the 1990s. It’s lifelong. It crosses every boundary—race, income, background—and it’s often accompanied by co-occurring conditions like ADHD (which affects 1 in 10 children).
Yet for all these families, travel is still daunting. Many parents are afraid to venture far from home because the world isn’t always built to understand their child’s needs.
That’s exactly why Beaches Resorts stepped up.
Leading the Way in Inclusion
Back in 2017, inspired by Julia, the lovable 4-year-old on the autism spectrum from Sesame Street, Beaches became the first resort company in the world to be certified by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES).
By 2019, they achieved Advanced Certified Autism Center status—extending this care beyond kids’ clubs to include water sports, entertainment, excursions, and the entire property. Today, two Beaches Resorts are certified, with three more on the way.
But it’s more than a certification—it’s a culture.
All Sandals and Beaches employees are now offered Autism Sensitivity Awareness training, with the goal of having every single staff member certified.
As the owner of 3D Travel, my plan is to challenge every member of our team to do the same. And amazing people that they are, I know they will!

A Real-Life Success Story: The Malone Family
The Malone family has five kids—including 15-year-old non-verbal autistic quadruplets. They requested the help of Beaches Buddies, plus a helper from home, and hoped for the best.
By day two, their hopes had turned into joy. The boys were laughing, playing, participating. They experienced everything the resort had to offer—without fear, stress, or overwhelm.
Their father, watching his sons fully enjoy a vacation for the first time, was moved to tears. And for the first time in years, their parents had the chance to relax… and just be together.
